Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to launch daily assessments for UK HEFA Sustainable Aviation Fuel Certificates effective April 27, 2026.
The proposed assessments would reflect the value of UK SAF Certificates generated from the delivery of SAF produced via the hydrotreated esters and fatty acids, or HEFA, pathway and used to demonstrate compliance with the energetic obligation placed on aviation fuel suppliers under the UK SAF Mandate.
The proposal follows an increase of liquidity during the 2026 compliance period, driven by heightened obligations.
Under the UK policy, the obligation period ends on Dec. 31, and obligations are surrendered on Sept. 15 the following year.
Under the proposal, prices would be assessed for the most recent obligation period that has yet to be surrendered, alongside the following obligation period.
Platts would assess:
For example, Platts would publish 2027 UK HEFA SAF Certificates as a 2027 vintage as well as:
The assessments would reflect transactional volumes from 500,000 to 5 million UK SAF Certificates. Volumes outside of these parameters may be considered and normalized to the basis level. Each certificate discharges 34MJ of the obligation.
The assessments would reflect first quarter of the year transfer and payment terms of five to seven days after the transfer. Pricing information reflecting other terms may be considered and normalized to the specification. The assessments would be published daily at the market close at 4:30 pm London time in pence per certificate, following the London publishing calendar.
These assessments would appear in Biofuelscan, Weekly Biomass Based Diesel report and the Platts price database.
