Platts proposes to discontinue Bitcoin Quarq Spreads Indices and the Global Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to discontinue the Bitcoin Quarq Spreads and the Global Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index effective April 29, 2026.
This proposal stems from market feedback regarding the fragmented nature of existing technologies and the continual upgrades they undergo. As a result, power consumption varies widely across different technologies, resulting in difficulty measuring precise power consumption and impacting the calculation of Bitcoin Quarq Spreads indices.
The indices are published as part of the European Power Daily, Energy Trader and Megawatt Daily publications, and on the fixed pages PEP0010 and AGP2527.
