Platts launches price assessments for Japan's J-Credits Feb 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched compliance carbon price assessments for Japanese J-Credits effective Feb. 2, 2026.

These assessments reflect spot market activity across four different categories of J-Credits, including Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy (Electricity), Renewable Energy (Heat), and Forestry J-Credits.

One J-Credit represents one metric ton of carbon dioxide reduced or removed by sinks through efforts to introduce energy-saving devices and manage forests.

More information on the J-Credit scheme, as prescribed by the government, can be found here.

Under the country's domestic emissions trading scheme (ETS), also known as the Green Transformation (GX)-ETS, compliance entities may offset up to 10% of their liable emissions with J-Credits and other eligible credits.

The GX-ETS started as a voluntary baseline-and-crediting system during its first phase from 2024 to 2025 and is expected to transition to a mandatory ETS from FY2026 after its first compliance deadline.

Platts now publishes the following assessments with the symbols listed below:
