Platts modifies CFPC calculation for US BBD and SAF, RIN multiplier for US RD, Jan. 2, 2026

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has updated the Clean Fuel Production Credit (CFPC) calculation, and the Renewable Identification Number (RIN) multiplier used in several Platts biofuels assessments in the US, effective Jan. 2, 2026.

After considering feedback and conducting operational analysis, Platts has launched the project effective Jan. 2, 2026, instead of Jan. 5, 2026, as detailed in a note available here.

The CFPC updates have impacted the biodiesel, renewable diesel (RD) and SAF assessments, while the RIN multiplier update has impacted the RD assessments.

The modifications are based on the latest guidance stated in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and the proposed rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for 2026 and 2027.

Clean Fuel Production Credit

According to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the carbon intensity (CI) is rounded to the nearest multiple of 5 kgCO2/MMBtu to calculate the CFPC.

Therefore, Platts calculates the CFPC as follows:

(50 – CI rounded)/50 x max. credit value

The actual CI (in kgCO2/MMBtu) for every fuel is stated in Platts methodology . In line with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act , the max. credit value for biomass-based diesel produced in 2026 is 100 cents/gal.

RIN multiplier

According to the proposed rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard for 2026 and 2027, the equivalence value for renewable diesel specified would change to 1.6 RIN/gal from 1.7 RIN/gal.

Therefore, Platts has changed the RIN multiplier for all renewable diesel assessments with credits attached.
