Platts discontinues US carbon-accounted methanol assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has discontinued its US carbon-accounted methanol assessments, effective Jan. 2.

Platts proposed the discontinuation in a subscriber note, which can be found here.

The final publication date for these assessments was Dec. 31.

The discontinuation refers to the assessments that were databased under the following symbols:

These assessments reflected the value of conventional methanol and methanol as a marine fuel, for which all greenhouse gas emissions had been accounted for and offset via the purchase of voluntary carbon credits.

The affected assessments were published on Platts Connect, Solventswire, Europe and US Petrochemicalscan, and the Platts Price Point database.

Platts launched new assessments for US low-carbon methanol marine fuel on Nov. 17, details for which can be found here.
