Tariffs shake up soybean trade between US, Brazil, China

Agricultural supply chains are realigning due to geopolitical shifts, with the US introducing and getting hit back with tariffs. 

China, the world largest soybean importer, is accelerating its diversification away from its second-largest supplier, the US. 

China’s imports of US soybean cargoes have been on the decline since mid-January, and the US’ share in the global soybean market has dropped.

So, who is rising through the ranks in market share and stepping up to meet Chinese demand? 

It’s Brazil, the world’s top soybean producer and exporter. 

Brazil’s record crop in the 2024-2025 season has significantly increased soybean availability to the export market. The country is now on track to export 109 million tons this season. 

So, as China-US trade tensions linger, it seems that Brazil is turning global disruptions into long-term dominance in the world’s most crucial oilseed trade.
