West Africa diesel imports hit 899,000 mt

Russia supplies 153,000 mt to region in April

April imports of diesel and gasoil into West Africa so far have reached 899,000 metric tons, while no diesel/gasoil has been exported from Nigeria's Dangote refinery in April so far, data from S&P Global Commodities at Sea showed.

About 899,000 mt of diesel/gasoil arrived in West Africa so far in April, down from a total of 1.355 million mt in March, CAS data showed April 9.

The largest non-African exporters have been Russia, South Korea, and the US, which supplied a combined 481,000 mt so far this month.

In March, imports of diesel and gasoil into West Africa from Russia reached 337,000 mt, down from 456,000 mt in February. So far this month, product flow from Russia to West Africa has reached 153,000 mt.

Russia has become one of the main providers of diesel and gasoil to West Africa after the EU imposed a ban on Russian oil product imports in February 2023. Russia supplied 3.4 million mt to West Africa in 2025, and 1.3 million mt so far in 2026.

So far this month, no product from India -- a major exporter of diesel/gasoil to West Africa in recent months -- has been exported to West Africa.

Imports from the US this month to West Africa have so far reached 125,000 mt, the highest since November 2024, when 141,000 mt was imported from the US.

On the export side, no diesel/gasoil has been exported from the Dangote refinery this month so far. In March, 324,000 mt of product was exported from Dangote refinery, the highest since December 2025, when 331,000 mt was loaded, CAS data showed.
