China's construction steel demand drops in Q3
Property sector woes weigh on steel consumption
Infrastructure investment growth slows, denting demand
Steel demand from China's construction sector, a crucial barometer for the domestic steel industry's health, declined in Q3, and the weakness is likely to persist in the near term.
This is largely due to China's property sector continuing to face pressure, as well as a slowdown in infrastructure investment growth.
New home construction starts, a key indicator of steel demand, decreased 19% year-over-year from January to September and were 70% lower than in the same period of 2021.
