Oil costs pressure margins despite volume gains

US cement producer Amrize reported higher volumes in the second quarter, driven by demand from mega-projects tied to data centers, energy, advanced manufacturing and infrastructure modernization.

Amrize's Q2 2026 revenue increased 8.6% year over year to $3.49 billion and net income rose 14.4% to $476 million, it said late Aug. 6 in an earnings report.

The acquisition of PB Materials contributed $54 million to Q2 revenue and exceeded expectations, supported by demand and market position in West Texas, it said.

Amrize said revenue growth included $200 million from volume growth, $54 million from acquisitions, $16 million from aggregates price increases and $6 million from foreign exchange.

In Building Materials, revenue increased 8.2% to $2.45 billion. Cement volumes rose 5% to 6.3 million metric tons, while aggregates volumes increased 6.5% to 34.3 million mt. Supplementary cementitious material volumes were also up in the double digits, according to the company.

Aggregates pricing increased 4% on a constant-currency, freight-adjusted basis, with support across Amrize's geographies. Cement pricing was down 0.2% on a constant-currency basis compared with Q2 2025, although the company said it was 2.1% higher than in Q1 2026, as price increases were realized during the quarter.

Cost inflation remained a headwind, particularly from oil-related increases affecting freight, diesel and raw materials. Amrize raised its full-year revenue guidance to $12.5 billion-$12.7 billion, citing higher demand, while revising its adjusted EBITDA guidance to $3.1 billion-$3.2 billion due to oil price-driven cost inflation.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed Cement CIF Houston at $89/mt Aug. 6.
