Cimsa increases CAC capacity to 197,000 mt
New waste heat facility cuts plant emissions
Renewable energy to meet 40% of plant needs
Cimsa Cimento, one of Turkey's big cement producers, has boosted its calcium aluminate cement (CAC) production capacity after bringing a new facility in Mersin online, the company said in a regulatory filing on July 14.
"In line with our company's strategy to grow in the sustainable building materials sector and expand the capacity of value-added products, the new production facility investment made at our Mersin plant, in addition to the existing CAC production capacity, has been commissioned following the completion of trial production and testing processes," it said.
Following the commissioning of the new CAC production facility, the company's annual CAC clinker production capacity has increased from 131,000 metric tons to 197,000 mt.
"Accordingly, our company's position as the third-largest producer in the global CAC market has been further strengthened," Cimsa said.
The company, meanwhile, began operations on July 6 at its new Waste Heat Recovery facility at its Eskisehir plant, with an installed capacity of 5,500 kWp direct current.
"In addition to reducing the energy costs of our Eskisehir plant, the commissioned WHR facility will also contribute positively to our carbon emission reduction targets committed under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)," Cimsa said.
The electricity generated by the WHR facility is expected to meet about 25% of the company's Eskisehir plant's total annual electricity consumption.
Combined with the solar power plant investment commissioned in March 2025, about 40% of the plant's annual electricity needs are expected to be met through self-generated electricity.
Cimsa is one of the world's foremost brands in white cement and one of the world's top three producers of CAC.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed ordinary Portland cement (CEM I 42.5R) (bulk) at $55/mt on CEMDEX Turkey July 9, up 50 cents/mt week over week, while cement clinker was assessed at $45.75/mt, down $1.25/mt week over week.
