May clinker and cement exports fall 9.3% MOM
Sales to Bangladesh, the Philippines, Taiwan drop between Jan-May
Vietnam exported 3.11 million mt of clinker and cement in May, up 5.4% year over year, according to the customs data released June 10.
The export volume, however, fell 9.3% from April, the data showed.
The Vietnamese customs did not provide a breakdown for clinker and cement volumes.
Bangladesh remained the largest destination for clinker and cement in May with shipments at 196,737 mt, down 59.4% year over year. The other major buyers included Malaysia (at 158,547 mt, up 22.4% year over year), the Philippines (at 156,870 mt, down 70.6% year over year) and Taiwan (at 97,460 mt, down 37.96% year over year), the data showed.
The exports in the first five months rose 16.7% year over year to 16.51 million mt, mainly to Bangladesh, the Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan, showed the data.
Vietnamese clinker and cement prices were stable in the week ended June 12, supported by unchanged offer levels and steady demand, according to market participants in Asia. Offers for Vietnamese clinker cargoes loading in July were heard at around $34-$35/metric ton FOB Vietnam, while offers for ASTM Type I bulk cement were also heard unchanged at $40/mt FOB.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $39.50/mt on June 11, unchanged from the previous week. Platts also assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $33.50/mt, stable week over week.
