Two-year MOU to accelerate carbon capture utilization

Organizations to promote CCS tech awareness, collaborate on policy outreach

The Global Cement and Concrete Association and the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute have established a partnership to advance the use of carbon capture and storage across the global cement and concrete industries, the GCCA said June 3.

The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding that establishes a two-year partnership to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture and storage across the cement and concrete sectors. To mark the first step under the MOU, the two organizations will convene a roundtable of industry leaders and stakeholders.

"Through working more closely with the GCCSI, we are looking forward to helping our members reach their net zero goals more quickly through the use of CCS project pathways, including crucial policy outreach," Thomas Guillot, chief executive of the GCCA, said in a statement.

The two organizations will promote awareness of and understanding of CCS technologies available to the cement sector.

They will also share technical insights with member companies and advocate for policies to support the adoption of CCS.

"Through this partnership, we aim to support the industry by sharing expertise, fostering dialogue, and creating the conditions needed for CCS projects to succeed," said Jarad Daniels, CEO of the Global CCS Institute, in a statement.
