Raises grinding capacity at Aligarh plant to 1.95 mil mt

Total cement capacity reaches 5.6 million mt

India-based Mangalam Cement Ltd. has commissioned an additional 1.20 million metric tons/year of cement grinding capacity at its Aligarh unit in Uttar Pradesh, the company said in a statement April 1.

Following the expansion, the unit's total grinding capacity has increased to 1.95 million mt/year, while the company's overall grey cement manufacturing capacity has risen to 5.60 million mt/year, it said.

The company said the capacity addition is expected to enhance its ability to serve key markets more efficiently, while improving logistics optimization and expanding its market reach.

Several Asia-based traders noted that the commissioning comes amid steady cement demand in parts of northern India, driven by infrastructure and construction activities, which have encouraged producers to expand grinding capacity closer to consumption centers.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $38/mt on April 2, unchanged from the previous week. Platts assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $34/mt, stable week over week.
