Adds 3.65 mil mt/year clinker capacity in Karnataka

Total clinker capacity at Kodla rises to 7.15 mil mt/year

India's Shree Cement has commissioned a new clinkerization section at its integrated cement plant in Kodla, located in the Kalaburagi district of Karnataka, effective Feb. 24, according to a regulatory filing.

The new unit will have a capacity of 3.65 million metric tons/year, taking the total clinker capacity at the Kodla site to 7.15 million mt/y, the filing said.

The addition is part of Shree Cement's broader capacity expansion plans in southern India, enabling the company to increase output and meet rising demand in the region, it said.

The additional capacity could enhance Shree Cement's regional supply reach, with minimal impact on the wider seaborne clinker trade, three traders in Asia said.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $38.50/metric ton Feb. 19, up from $38/mt the previous week. Platts assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $34/mt, stable over the same period.
