India's Star Cement has inaugurated its new cement plant in Cachar, Assam, the company said in a LinkedIn post Feb. 22.

The company said the facility was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and described the project as a key milestone that reinforces its commitment to the state's development while supporting infrastructure growth and industrial activity in the Barak Valley.

The newly commissioned facility is a greenfield plant with a production capacity of about 2 million metric tons/year, the company said.

It also features a dedicated railway siding, which is expected to enhance connectivity and enable more efficient material transportation, the company added.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $38.50/mt on Feb. 19, up from $38/mt the previous week. Platts assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $34/mt, stable over the same period.
