May 2025 cement shipments sit at 8.91 million mt
Year-to-date shipments total 37.9 million mt
Year-to-date clinker production falls 9.9% from 2024
Total shipments of Portland-type and blended cement in the US reached an estimated 8.91 million mt in May 2025, marking a 7.5% decrease from May 2024, according to the latest report from the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Year-to-date shipments through May totaled approximately 37.9 million mt, reflecting a 6% decline compared to the same period last year.
Masonry cement shipments also experienced a downturn, totaling an estimated 190,000 mt in May 2025, down 6.5% from the previous year. Year-to-date masonry cement shipments reached around 860,000 mt, an 8% decrease from 2024.
Clinker production totaled an estimated 6.38 million mt in May 2025, a slight decrease from 6.46 million mt in May 2024. Year-to-date production stood at 24.5 million mt, down 9.9% from the same timeframe last year.
In terms of imports, cement and clinker imports totaled 2.51 million mt in May 2025, a marginal increase from 2.50 million mt in May 2024. while year-to-date imports were 9.81 million mt, reflecting a 4.7% decrease from the previous year.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch a weekly price assessment for Cement CIF Houston, effective Sept. 4.
