Tokyo selects firms for UCO collection
Japan's engineering company JGC Holdings Corp. reached an agreement with Mitaka City in Tokyo, REVO International Inc. and Saffaire Sky Energy on Oct. 19 to promote the recycling of used cooking oil as feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel, JGC said in a statement Oct. 20.
Mitaka collected about 100 liters of UCO at each city-sponsored festival in 2004 and 2005. New recycling containers will begin collecting UCO in the city on Oct. 21. REVO International will collect the feedstock from the containers and transport it to Saffaire Sky Energy's plant at Cosmo Oil's Sakai refinery in western Japan as feedstock for domestic SAF.
Cosmo Oil, JGC Holdings, and REVO International jointly established Saffaire Sky Energy in 2022 to create a domestic SAF supply chain, from collecting UCO to producing, transporting and supplying SAF, according to the statement. The plant at the Sakai refinery started supplying SAF in April 2025.
JGC, REVO International and Cosmo Oil cut an agreement with the Tokyo Metropolitan government in July to expand the collection of household UCO, according to the statement. The three companies began supplying Japan's first domestic SAF in April 2025 after being admitted as members to advance a project to recycle UCO.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed SAF (HEFA-SPK) FOB Straits at $2,140/mt on Oct. 21, down $10/mt or 0.5% from the previous assessment.
