Weekly US coal train loadings average 74.2 trains/d, up 18.3 trains on year

Houston — Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 74.2 trains/day, down 1.4 trains from the previous week and up 18.3 trains from the previous year, Surface Board Transportation data showed May 14.

Loadings in the Powder River Basin averaged 41.7 trains/d, down 1 train week on week and up 12 trains from the year-ago week.

In the Illinois Basin, they dipped 0.2 train to 4.9 trains/d from the previous week. Year on year, loadings were up 1.1 trains.

Northern Appalachian loadings averaged 8.8 trains/d, down 0.5 train from the week before and up 2.9 trains compared with the year-ago week.

Average Central Appalachian loadings totaled 13.6 trains/d, up 0.4 train week on week and up 3.1 trains/d year on year.

Other loadings fell 0.1 train from the previous week and 0.8 train from the year-ago week to 5.2 trains/d in the most recent week.
