Vietnam remains largest buyer
Indian imports down 68%
China's purified terephthalic acid exports declined by 35% month over month to 222,538 metric tons in October, according to the latest data from China Customs Statistics released Nov. 22.
Vietnam was the largest importer of PTA from China, accounting for 15% or 32,580 mt of China's total exports in October.
The proportion of South Asian countries increased month over month, from 26% in September to 31% in October, with the majority of cargoes moving to Pakistan (14%) and Bangladesh (11%) in October. However, exports to India dropped by 68% month over month to 12,096/mt in October, the data showed.
After the revocation of India's BIS certification requirements in November, some Chinese participants expect to see an uptick in the PTA exports to India.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed CFR China was down $2/mt day over day at $611/mt Nov. 20.
