Activity within the Platts Market on Close assessment process for US ethanol has slipped since 2024, coinciding with a period of large supply builds -- for ethanol and corn -- and mostly flat domestic demand. Despite overseas demand growth as countries seek to blend higher volumes of ethanol, Brazil's accelerating ethanol and agricultural sectors have created headwinds for US farmers and ethanol producers alike.
European T2 ethanol pricing faces uncertainty, as more ambitious renewable targets in line with RED III balance against the impact of free trade agreements with the US and the Mercosur bloc. Trading activity in the Platts T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam MOC has increased year over year since 2021, as E10 uptake in Europe has propped up demand.
