Silvi Materials expands cement distribution with new terminals

Silvi Materials is expanding its rail-served cement distribution network with new terminals in Greenville, South Carolina, and Columbus, Ohio, as it builds out its supply network across the eastern US, the company said in a statement on Aug. 24.

The Greenville terminal is under construction and is expected to become operational in October 2026, while the Columbus facility is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026. Both terminals will distribute Type I/II low-alkali cement and Grade 120 slag, it said.

The expansion is intended to bring cementitious materials closer to customers in the Southeast and Midwest and add flexibility to the company's supply chain, the statement said.

Laurence J. Silvi II, co-president of Silvi Materials, said the company's continued investment in rail infrastructure is intended to build the network needed to serve customers as the business grows. He said the Greenville and Columbus terminals would place Silvi closer to customers in two key markets and give it greater flexibility to move cement and slag.

Construction is underway in Columbus on the large-scale, rail-served distribution facility the company first announced in 2025. The site, previously identified as Silvi Materials' Central Ohio terminal, will distribute Type I/II low-alkali cement and Grade 120 slag and will offer 24/7 loading, Silvi Materials said.

The Greenville and Columbus terminals together expand a distribution network designed to move cementitious materials efficiently by rail to strategically located markets closer to customers, it said.

The expansion builds on nearly four decades of experience importing and distributing cementitious materials. Silvi Materials' flagship terminal in Bristol, Pennsylvania, remains one of the largest cement import terminals in North America, with three storage domes providing a combined capacity of 165,000 metric tons and direct access to an extensive rail distribution network, according to the statement.

The facilities represent another step in building a distribution network that can support the company's customers and long-term growth, Silvi II said.

The terminal expansion complements Silvi Materials' broader investments in ready-mix concrete, cement, slag, aggregates and logistics throughout the Eastern US. By combining strategically located distribution facilities with marine, rail and trucking capabilities, the company is strengthening its ability to provide customers with reliable access to construction materials, the company said.

Silvi Materials, headquartered in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, was established in 1947 and operates as a vertically integrated company across the ready-mix concrete, sand mining, stone mining, and slag and cement businesses.
