Philippines' rice imports to hit decade high

Local production lags behind demand growth

Vietnam remains the dominant supplier

The Philippines' growing reliance on imported rice is expected to push imports to a decade-high of 5.6 million metric tons in the marketing year 2026/27 (July-June), as local production struggles to keep pace with demand. While Manila has tightened controls on rice inflows, moving from an outright suspension in late 2025 to monthly import quotas in 2026, Vietnam has remained the dominant source of supply.
