Spain's cement consumption slips in May despite strong year-to-date growth

Spain's cement consumption saw a slight decrease in May, falling 0.3% year on year to 1.465 million mt, according to the latest data from the Cement Statistics published by the sector's employers' association, Oficemen.

Despite the decline in May, total consumption in the first five months of 2026 grew 7% to 6.8 million mt, representing a 450,000-mt increase compared with the same period last year.

Cement exports declined in May, totaling 343,679 mt -- a 17.3% year-over-year drop and a reduction of 73,000 mt compared with the same month last year.

Total exports from January to May fell 16.7% year over year to 1.58 million mt.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed CEMDEX Turkey at $55.50/mt FOB on June 11.
