Hoffmann launches cold clay processing tech

H-CLAY eliminates energy-intensive calcination

Innovation produces zero-clinker cement products

Low-carbon cement producer Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies launched its H-CLAY technology that enables the cold processing of clay into a co-product for use in the formulation of 0% clinker cements, according to a statement by the company June 9.

The technology is based on a process for cold-processing clay without conventional calcination or flash calcination processes, which are highly energy-intensive and emit CO2, according to the statement.

"Having demonstrated that it is possible to mass-produce and market high-performance clinker-free cements, we are now breaking new ground with the cold processing of clay, without calcination or flash-setting," Julien Blanchard and David Hoffmann, co-founders of Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies, said.

"This innovation perfectly illustrates our ambition: to develop disruptive technologies able to significantly reduce cement's carbon footprint, while meeting the technical requirements of the construction market. H-CLAY strengthens our technological lead and confirms our unique position in the decarbonized cement industry," they added.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, last assessed CEMDEX Turkey at $55/mt FOB on June 4.
