Platts proposes to launch daily CFR China propylene oxide physical assessment Dec. 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to launch a daily spot propylene oxide CFR China assessment, effective Dec. 1, 2023.

Growing demand for propylene oxide was observed in China, as the world largest importing country took in around 300,000 mt of the propylene derivative in 2022, according to statistical figures by China Customs Statistics.

The proposed assessment will be published in $/mt on a daily basis, taking account of market information reported to Platts ahead of the market close at 4:30 pm Singapore time (0830 GMT).

Platts would factor in the latest information sourced from the market up to the close of the Platts Market on Close assessment process at 4:30 pm Singapore time (0830 GMT).

The proposed assessment would reflect propylene oxide that meets the following specifications:

  • Timing: Delivered 20-40 days forward from the date of publication
  • Location basis: CFR China: Zhangjiagang, Ningbo, Yantai and Tianjin
  • Cargo size: 3,000 mt.
  • Credit terms: L/C 45 days
  • Quality specifications: Minimum purity of 99.9%; maximum water content (wt) of 100ppm; maximum aldehydes content of 100ppm

Pricing information for material with other specifications and terms may be normalized to the proposed standard.
