Metals & Mining Theme, Ferrous, Non-Ferrous
September 02, 2024
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to change the publication schedule and forex calculations for its monthly frequency EMEA ferrous metals assessments, effective November 2024.
Currently, monthly EMEA ferrous metals assessments are published on the 10th of each month or the closest working day, if the 10th falls on a weekend or a holiday.
Under the proposal, if the 10th is on a weekend or a holiday, then the monthly EMEA ferrous metals assessments would be published on the next working day, in order to provide a consistent publication calendar.
This is summarized as follows:
EMEA ferrous metals assessment publication date | Current holiday/exception rule | Proposed holiday/exception rule |
10th of the month | Closest working day | Next working day |
For the remainder of 2024 and 2025, the proposed publication schedule for monthly EMEA ferrous metals assessments is as follows:
2024 | Monday November 11 | *10th is a Sunday |
Tuesday December 10 | ||
2025 | Friday January 10 | |
Monday February 10 | ||
Monday March 10 | ||
Thursday April 10 | ||
Monday May 12 | *10th is a Saturday
Tuesday June 10 | ||
Thursday July 10 | ||
Monday August 11 | *10th is a Sunday
Wednesday September 10
Friday October 10 | ||
Monday November 10 | ||
Wednesday December 10 |
The following Platts monthly frequency assessments would be affected by the change to the publication schedule:

Platts also proposes to amend the formula to calculate the US dollar conversion for a number of the monthly frequency assessments to better account for exchange rate fluctuations between the US dollar and the Euro, effective November 2024 . The amended formula would use the exchange rate from the day of assessment, revised from the current formula which applies a EUR:USD rate from one day prior to the 10th of the month.
The proposed change would affect the following US dollar conversion symbols:
Assessment name | $/mt conversion symbol |
Shredded Scrap S Europe Dom Prod Dlvd | SB01263 |
Shredded Scrap N Europe Dom Prod Dlvd | SBMAR03 |
Merchant Bar Europe Dom Prod Dlvd | SBO1166 |
Plate CIF S Europe Import | SBO1182 |
The assessments are published on Platts Ferrous Metals Alert pages MW1315, STL1315, Steel Metals Daily, Steel Price Report, Steel Raw Materials Monthly and Global Market Outlook, and in the Platts price database under the symbols listed above.
