Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to discontinue its daily carbon-accounted freight assessments where the loading and/or discharge ports fall within the scope of the European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS) effective March 1.
Platts understands that prevailing tanker spot trade patterns since shipping's inclusion in the EU ETS on Jan. 1 include the EU ETS charges, making separate carbon-accounted freight assessments redundant.
Platts will continue its daily carbon emission charge assessments, as they reflect and break out the cost to offset 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions created on voyages involving EU and European Economic Area ports.
The assessments proposed to be discontinued are:
