Platts to launch NWE balance-of-month next-day, calendar year derivative assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch balance-of-month next-day (balmo-ND), monthly, and three calendar year Northwest European LNG derivative assessments against a time stamp of 4.30 pm London time, effective Jan. 16, 2025.

The balmo-ND assessment will reflect the tradable value of the derivative contract that financially settles against the remaining yet-to-be published assessments for the NWE pricing month, starting from the next day of publication.

The balmo-ND derivatives assessment will be published from the first assessment day of a pricing month to the sixth last assessment day of the same pricing month.

For example, from Jan. 16, 2025, to Feb. 7, 2025, Platts will publish NWE balmo-ND derivatives assessments for March 2025.

The additional monthly NWE LNG derivative assessment will reflect the tradable value of the derivative contract 12 months ahead of the pricing month. This latest month-12 assessment will roll over on the 16th of each calendar month, or the following business day if the 16th is not a business day, in line with the other monthly derivative assessments.

The three calendar year assessments will reflect the yearly tradable values of NWE derivative contracts three calendar years ahead of the current calendar year.

These calendar-year assessments will roll over on the first business day of each calendar year.

For example, on Dec. 31, 2025, Platts will assess Cal 2026, 2027 and 2028, and on Jan. 2, 2026, Platts will assess Cal 2027, 2028 and 2029.

The above NWE LNG derivative assessments will be published on each business day and reflect tradable values at 4.30 pm London time of the derivatives that settle on the physical NWE assessments.

These assessments will follow the Platts London publication calendar, and all prices will be published in dollars per million British thermal units ($/MMBtu) to three decimal places.

Platts first proposed the launch of these assessments Nov. 26 via a subscriber note here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodity-insights/en/pricing-benchmarks/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/112624-platts-proposes-to-launch-nwe-balance-month-next-day-and-calendar-year-derivative-assessments
