Platts will expand Brazil corn coverage from Jan. 2, 2025

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch three daily price assessments for the Brazilian corn market, effective Jan. 2, 2025.

The assessments will reflect the value of corn in the key producing states of Mato Grosso, Goiás, and Paraná, and bring additional transparency to the feedstock markets for ethanol and animal feed in Brazil.

The launch of the new assessments was first proposed on Nov. 8, in a subscriber note available here.

The specifications of the new price assessments are as follows:

  • Quality: Reflecting ANEC 44 standards, which specify a maximum of 14.5% of humidity, a maximum of 1.5% of foreign matter, a maximum of 3% of broken grains, a maximum of 5% of damaged grains (with 1% heat damage and/or germinated), free of live insects and free of toxic seeds.
  • Quantity: Basis 250 mt.
  • Timing: To be loaded up to 30 days from the date of publication.
  • Payment terms: Cash against documents, 30 days after loading.
  • Assessments exclude local taxes.

Platts will publish separate assessments for three different locations on an ex-works basis:

  • Mato Grosso state, basis City of Sorriso
  • Goiás state, basis City of Rio Verde
  • Paraná state, basis City of Maringá

The new corn price assessments will be published in Real per 60 kilogram (Real/60 kg). Platts will also publish a conversion to US dollars per metric ton ($/mt ) using a 5:30 pm São Paulo time BRL/USD exchange rate.

The three assessments will consider market information reported to Platts and published as heards throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.

The daily assessments will reflect a 5:30 pm São Paulo timestamp and follow the Platts São Paulo publishing schedule. The new assessments will complement Platts' existing coverage of the Brazilian corn export market, details of which can be found here.
