Platts proposes to expand Brazil corn coverage from Jan. 2, 2025

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to launch three daily price assessments for the Brazilian corn market, effective Jan. 2, 2025. The assessments would reflect the value of corn in the key producing states of Mato Grosso, Goiás and Paraná and bring additional transparency to the feedstock markets for ethanol and animal feed in Brazil.

The specifications of the new proposed price assessments are as follows:

  • Quality: Reflecting ANEC 44 standards, which specify a maximum 14.5% of humidity, maximum 1.5% of foreign matter, maximum 3% of broken grains, maximum 5% of damaged grains (with 1% heat damage and/or germinated), free of live insects and free of toxic seeds
  • Quantity: 250 mt basis
  • Timing: To be loaded up to 30 days from date of publication
  • Payment terms: Cash against documents, 30 days after loading

Platts would publish separate assessments for three different locations on an ex-works basis:

  • Mato Grosso state, basis City of Sorriso
  • Goiás state, basis City of Rio Verde
  • Paraná state, basis City of Maringá

The new corn price assessments would be published in Real per 60 kilogram (Real/60 kg), with a converted value also published in US dollars per metric ton ($/mt).

The three assessments would consider market information reported to Platts and published as heards throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.

The daily assessments would reflect a 5:30 pm Sao Paulo timestamp and follow the Platts Sao Paulo publishing schedule. The new assessments would complement Platts' existing coverage of the Brazilian corn export market, details of which can be found here(opens in a new tab).
