Platts launches HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment Nov 3

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a new daily price assessment for head-on shell-on shrimp, farmgate India, effective Nov. 3, 2025.

India is the second-largest exporter of shrimp globally, and the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh serves as a crucial production hub, housing the largest concentration of shrimp farms and processing units.

The new HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment improves transparency in the market and enhances Platts protein coverage in India, which currently includes the PDTO Shrimp FCA India, while complementing its existing "field-to-fork" coverage of agriculture markets.

The launch of the new assessment was first proposed Sept. 7, 2025 in a subscriber note available here.

The specifications of the new price assessment will be as follows:

  • Basis and location: Ex-Works West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh
  • Quality: Farm-raised L. Vannamei shrimp, head-on shell-on, 40 count/kg, packed in transport tubs (insulated boxes) with crushed ice to shrimp ratio of 2:1, loaded in reefer truck
  • Quantity: Minimum 5 mt
  • Timing: Loading up to five days forward from the date of publication
  • Payment terms: Cash against documents

The new assessment would be published in Indian rupee per kilogram (INR/kg). Platts also publishes a conversion to US dollars per metric ton ($/mt) using a 4:30 pm New Delhi time USD/INR exchange rate (Symbol HSEFK00).

A monthly average would also be published for the HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment effective Dec. 1.

The assessment considers market information reported to Platts and published as heards throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.

The assessment is published in Platts Protein Daily and on the fixed pages PAA0207 and PAA0208.
