Platts to launch HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment Nov. 3

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch a new daily price assessment for head-on shell-on shrimp, farmgate India, effective Nov. 3, 2025.

India is the second-largest exporter of shrimp globally, and the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh serves as a crucial production hub, housing the largest concentration of shrimp farms and processing units.

The new HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment would improve transparency in the market and enhance Platts protein coverage in India, which currently includes the PDTO Shrimp FCA India, while complementing its existing "field-to-fork" coverage of agriculture markets.

Platts first proposed the launch of the HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment on Sept. 7, 2025, in a subscriber note here.

The specifications of the new price assessment will be as follows:

  • Basis and location: Ex-Works West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh
  • Quality: Farm-raised L. Vannamei shrimp, head-on shell-on, 40 count/kg, packed in transport tubs (insulated boxes) with crushed ice to shrimp ratio of 2:1, loaded in reefer truck
  • Quantity: Minimum 5 mt
  • Timing: Loading up to 5 days forward from the date of publication
  • Payment terms: Cash against documents

The new assessment would be published in Indian rupee per kilogram (INR/kg), with a value also published in US dollars per mt ($/mt), converted using the relevant INR/$ foreign exchange rate.

A monthly average would also be published for the HOSO shrimp farmgate India assessment.

The assessment would be based on bids, offers, trades and market activity reported to Platts until market close at 4:30 pm India time and reflects the prevailing market value at the time of close.

The assessment would reflect a 4:30 pm India timestamp and follows the Platts India publishing calendar. The Platts holiday calendar is available at https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/holiday.
