Platts to discontinue US carbon-accounted methanol assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will discontinue its US carbon-accounted methanol assessments, effective Jan. 2, 2026.

Platts proposed the discontinuation in a subscriber note, which can be found here.

The final publication date for these assessments will be Dec. 31, 2025.

The discontinuation refers to the assessments that are databased under the following symbols:

These assessments reflect the value of conventional methanol and methanol as a marine fuel, for which all greenhouse gas emissions have been accounted for and offset via the purchase of voluntary carbon credits.
