Platts proposes to discontinue Dark Spreads for the UK

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to discontinue the Platts Dark Spreads for the UK, following the phasing out of coal-fired electricity generation in the UK, from Nov. 19, 2025.

The UK's last remaining coal-fired power plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, was shut down on Sept. 30, 2024, after more than five decades of operation, as the UK made the commitment to phase out coal-fired power generation.

While coal has long held only a minor share of UK power mix, Ratcliffe's closure was a symbolic milestone in the country's quest to fully decarbonize the power sector by 2030.
