LNG
August 26, 2025
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is commencing a consultation to review the standard cargo quantity specification reflected in the methodology for its JKM LNG benchmark price assessments.
The consultation was initiated following market feedback that the most commonly traded cargo quantity in the Asia-Pacific spot market has evolved in recent years due to the rise of portfolio-based trading, diversification of supply origins and greater flexibility within destination markets in Northeast Asia.
As per the current standard specifications, the Platts JKM assessment reflects a standard cargo quantity of 3.4 TBtu plus/minus 5% operational tolerance at the seller's option. Quantity ranges and discrete quantities other than 3.4 TBtu may be considered and normalized to this standard for assessment purposes. The maximum volume range stated in offers with volumes submitted in a range is no greater than 0.3 TBtu.
Platts seeks market feedback on the above standard quantity specification, and would also welcome feedback regarding the timing for implementing any potential specification changes.
