Platts proposes to launch North Asia to North Europe front-haul long-term container freight assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to launch a weekly long-term container freight assessment effective Oct. 1.

The long-term rates are intended to complement Platts current coverage by providing a window into the market's forward sentiment. While spot rates track real-time volatility, long-term agreements highlight shippers' willingness to lock in costs and carrier appetite to secure revenue stability.

The assessment would have the following specifications -

Assessment NameNorth Asia – North Continent (Europe)
Units$/FEU
TimingLoading 10 – 365 days forward from the date of publication
Timestamp16:30 London close

The proposed assessment would reflect the transactable value at 1630 London time, for transporting a 40-feet equivalent, or FEU, container on the route, for loading ten to 365 days forward from the date of publication.

The assessment would follow the London publishing schedule and be published weekly in the Platts Containers Daily Report.

The relevant geographic descriptions for the routes are:

North Asia: Tokyo to Hong Kong

North Continent: Bilbao to Hamburg
