Platts to change sustainable aviation fuel CIF ARA assessment delivery basis and specifications

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will change the basis for the Platts sustainable aviation fuel CIF ARA assessment to CIF Northwest Europe (NWE) effective Sept. 2, 2024.

The update will reflect that cargoes delivered into the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region, UK and northern France are included in the assessment.

Market feedback has indicated a need to include the UK as a delivery option to the sustainable aviation fuel CIF ARA assessment to promote higher liquidity, increase depth of data to the assessment and to better align with the underlying Platts jet fuel cargos CIF NWE price assessment.

Platts will also change the cargo volume size reflected in the assessment to 5,000-10,000mt, from 500-5,000 mt. Volumes outside this range will be normalized to this basis.

Platts will also raise the minimum greenhouse gas savings for the sustainable aviation fuel CIF NWE assessment. The assessment will reflect product meeting a minimum GHG saving of 85% under the European Commission's Renewable Energy Directive (REDII) framework. Other GHG savings levels such as 80% may be considered and normalized back to a min 85% level.
