Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch and take ownership of 23 FOLicht weekly spot and contract European ethanol assessments, effective Sept. 1, 2025.
The new assessments will provide transparency to the non-fuel ethanol markets of beverage and industrial grades, as well as fuel-grade ethanol in Eastern Europe. Platts will begin publishing the ethanol assessments as part of the migration of these prices from Commodity Insights' biofuel research and analytics coverage.

The quality specifications of the assessments are as follows:
ENA: undenatured extra neutral alcohol with 96% alcohol by volume, basic grain mix
Industrial grade 99 and 96: industrial grade ethanol with 99% and 96% alcohol by volume, respectively
Industrial REN 96 grade: Rectified Extra Neutral industrial with 96% alcohol by volume
Anhydrous fuel ethanol: fuel ethanol that meets European specification EN 15376
Delivered at Place (DAP) spot assessments will reflect delivery over a 30-day period starting one week forward from the day of publication. The DAP contract prices will reflect contracted volumes for delivery across the current quarter, published on the first working day of that quarter. For example, on Sept. 1, 2025, DAP contract prices will reflect delivery over Q3 2025. On Oct. 1, 2025, DAP contract prices will roll forward to reflect delivery over Q4 2025.
Free on Board (FOB) spot assessments will reflect loading over a 30-day period starting one week forward from the day of publication.
The assessments will reflect a volume size of one to two trucks. Other volumes may be considered and normalized to the assessment specification.
The spot assessments will be published at 16:30 London time on Mondays and follow the UK holiday calendar. If Monday is a non-publishing day, then the assessments will be published the previous working day.
The contract prices will be published at 16:30 London on the first working day of the new quarter.
The assessments will be published in the Platts Weekly Ethanol report and Platts Biofuels Alert, and will continue to be published in the World Ethanol Price report.
