Platts proposes to update weightings used for Platts global petrochemical indices
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to update the weightings used in the Platts global petrochemical indices to reflect production capacities in 2025, effective Sept. 1, 2025.
The proposed updates would reflect the changes in production capacities within each region, including shifts in global production ratios amid increasing capacities in Asia.
Currently, the weightings for Platts daily global petrochemical indices for ethylene, propylene, benzene, toluene, paraxylene, low density polyethylene and polypropylene homopolymer are based on production capacity as of 2022. These indices are calculated as weighted averages of daily assessments for Asia, Europe, and the US.
The Platts Global Petrochemical Index is the weighted average of seven basic global indices, described above.
Under the proposal, Platts would update the weightings for each index by region as follows:
