July 03, 2025
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to launch a new Suezmax tanker freight assessment for the Persian Gulf to West Coast India 130,000 mt route, effective Sep 1, 2025.
This proposal follows extensive industry consultations, analysis of market data, and direct feedback from market participants.
According to ship tracking data from trade flow software S&P Global Commodities at Sea, from 2019-2024, an average of 21 shipments per month were transported via Suezmax tankers on this route.
The proposed assessment would reflect a 130,000 metric ton crude cargo loading from the Persian Gulf and discharging along the West Coast of India, using modern Suezmax tonnage (vessel age below 15 years).
The assessment would be published on a Worldscale percentage basis along with a corresponding price in $/mt, derived from a flat rate based on a basket of key load and discharge ports.
The route basket would include:
The basket rate used for calculating the $/mt freight is basis the average of the above three routes.
Platts is also seeking market feedback on the potential need for assessments of Persian Gulf to East Coast India routes for both the VLCC and Suezmax segments and, if deemed necessary, whether these should be assessed on an outright basis or as differential assessments relative to the Persian Gulf-West Coast India route.
The proposed assessments would appear in Dirty Tankerwire, Monthly Dirty Tankerwire, Platts Shipping Alert pages 330, 331, and Platts Tanker Alert pages 2922, 2923.
