HIGHLIGHTS
Proposal to align quality specifications to industry standard
Proposal to align index frequency to weekly assessment
Proposal to launch monthly averages for assessment and index
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to update the quality specifications of its weekly Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered price assessment and subsequently its Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered Index, effective Aug. 1, 2025.
Platts is also proposing to increase the frequency of its calculated monthly Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered Index to weekly from monthly, effective Aug. 1, 2025.
Platts proposes to update the quality specification for both the assessment and index to NMX B-506 grade 42, from the current NMX C-407 grade 42. The proposed change would align the specification to the quality standard set by Canacero, the Mexican iron and steel chamber, and market feedback.
Additionally, Platts clarifies that the incoterm reflected in both the assessment and index is Delivered at Place (DAP).
All other specifications for the assessment and index would remain the same.
The Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered Index tracks the percentage base value change in the monthly average of Platts Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered price assessment. It is currently published on the first day of each month. Under the proposed frequency change, it would be published each Friday and track the percentage-based value change on a weekly basis. The Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered assessment would continue to be published weekly on Fridays.
The proposal to change the index's cadence is in response to market feedback that more frequent domestic buying and selling activity would be better reflected by a weekly base value change index.
The proposed changes are as follows:
Current symbol name | Symbol | Type | Current quality | Proposed quality | Current frequency | Proposed frequency |
Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered | SBMAU03 | Assessment | NMX-C-407 grade 42 | NMX - B-506 grade 42 | Weekly | No Change |
Rebar Mexico Domestic Production Delivered Index |
SB01603 |
Calculation | NMX-C-407 grade 42 | NMX - B-506 grade 42 | Monthly | Weekly |
Platts also proposes to launch monthly averages for both the Mexico rebar assessment and index, effective August 2025. The first calculations would reflect the monthly average of weekly prices published in the month of August.

The above assessments are published on pages STL1315 and PMA1315 of Platts Ferrous Metals Alert, Steel Price Report, Steel Business Briefing, and in the Platts price database under the symbols listed above.
