Platts to discontinue Japan aluminum yen conversions

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will discontinue its calculated Japan aluminum yen-conversion assessments effective Aug. 1, 2025.

These assessments are formula-based prices calculated using Platts Japan aluminum premium assessments, underlying London Metal Exchange settlements, the Japanese yen-US dollar exchange rate and metric ton-to-kilogram conversion.

The discontinuation reflects feedback that market participants prefer to apply their own calculations and exchange rates on prevailing US dollar basis CIF Japan aluminum premium assessments, in part due to Japan's position as a significant net importer of aluminum.
