Platts proposes changes to CFR NW Europe phosphoric acid assessment effective July 3

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to change the methodology of its CFR NW Europe Phosphoric Acid, 100% P2O5 (FPNEA04) assessment, effective July 3, 2025.

Platts proposes that the assessment would no longer reflect spot deals due to a shift from spot to contract. It is proposed that the published value represent all quarterly contract price input from the Moroccan producer, OCP and any confirmed buyers of phosphoric acid.

As a third-party reported price, Platts would seek to confirm contract prices agreed with the OCP and the various buyers, and report these via the published price without additional editorial input.

This represents a change from the current approach, where the price is assessed to reflect Platts' view of the repeatable tradable value for phosphoric acid quarterly contracts and spot deals.

As a part of the proposal, the assessment would be renamed from Phosphoric acid CFR NW Europe (100% P2O5) to Phosphoric acid CFR NW Europe CP (100% P2O5).

The price would continue to appear in all current publications and in the Platts price database under the code FPNEA04.
