Platts proposes changes to 23 European fertilizer assessments effective June 26

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing changes to the specifications of 23 European fertilizer assessments, effective June 26, 2025.

These proposed changes would further tighten the assessment specifications in order to provide greater clarity and transparency. The proposal follows engagement with participants across European fertilizer markets.

Under the proposal, a basis quantity, basis location, and revised shipment window would be specified for all 23 prices.

Platts is proposing the launch of a single number "close" value for each of these assessments, with standardized high and low ranges Eur1/mt above (high) and below (low) the close value for all assessments in euros and GBP1/mt above (high) and below (low) the close value for all assessments in pounds.

Market information received for bids, offers, or trades that fall outside the assessment specifications may be normalized to the specifications where necessary.

As part of this adjustment, Platts is proposing revising the basis of three "delivered farm" Ireland assessments to "delivered merchant" to enable greater specificity and transparency in the assessments. This change would apply to Urea Granular Bagged Dlvd Ireland Eur/mt (FUGIA04), Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (27% N) Bagged Dlvd Ireland Eur/mt (FCANB04), and NPK 27-6-6 Bagged Dlvd Ireland Eur/mt (FNPKA04).

Platts also proposes removing CAN 26% from its FCA Italy CAN spot assessment so that the assessment would only reflect FCA sales of CAN 27%. This would be to tighten the specifications, which currently include both CAN 26% and 27%, to reflect the predominant grade of CAN sold out of the port of Ravenna.

Platts also proposes revising the name of its Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (27% N) Retail Bulk Dlvd Belgium Eur/mt (FCANC04) and its Potassium Chloride Granular Bulk FCA Ex-store Belgium Eur/mt (FKCIW04) assessments to reflect "Benelux" rather than "Belgium." So, for example, the new name for FCANC04 would be Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (27% N) Retail Bulk Dlvd Benelux Eur/mt. This follows the decision to discontinue nine European fertilizer assessments, including the two existing Netherlands assessments. Pricing information heard in the Netherlands would be normalized, as needed, to inform the remaining Benelux assessments.
