Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to launch a CFR Mediterranean crushed lump sulfur spot price and adjust the current specifications for multiple sulfur assessments, effective June 26.
The proposal is aimed at adding further granularity to the sulfur coverage in the EMEA region.
The proposed crushed lump price would be assessed as a weekly single-number assessment. The published price would also reflect a low-high range based on +/-$1/ mt on each end of the single-number assessment.
The proposed price would follow the specifications below:
Assessment Name | CFR Mediterranean crushed lump sulfur, spot - small lots |
Quality | Crushed lump sulfur only in bulk |
Quantity | 8,000 mt |
Basis & Location | CFR Mediterranean basis Abu Qir, Egypt |
Timing | Product to be delivered two- to six-weeks forward |
Frequency | Weekly, every Thursday |
Unit of assessment | $/mt |
Timestamp | 16:30 London close, published according to the London publishing calendar |
In a bid to improve the scope of several existing assessments, Platts, as a part of this proposal, would also refine the specifications of the following price assessments.
Platts would now assess the below sulfur prices as a weekly single number, which will then be published with a low-high range with +/- $1/ mt on each side.

As a result of the above adjustments, the CFR Mediterranean Granular & Crushed Lump, Spot - small lots, (FSSMA04) will now be assessed as a range assessment with the low and high derived from the single number proposed and the single-number assessment for the CFR Mediterranean, Granular, spot - small lots (FSSMB04). No other market information will be taken into account.
For example, if FSSMB04 is assessed at $190/mt and the new proposed CFR Med crushed lump, spot - small lots at $200/mt, the FSSMA04 would be calculated as a range of $190-$200/mt.
The specifications for FSSMA04 will be aligned to a Quantity of 8,000 mt; Basis location as CFR Mediterranean basis Abu Qir, Egypt; Timing: Product to be delivered two- to six-weeks forward; Basis: Non-Russian origin.
