Platts proposes changes to CFR India phosphoric acid assessment June 26

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to amend the specifications of its CFR India Phosphoric Acid assessment, effective June 26, 2025.

Platts is proposing changes to duty status, quantity, and timing specifications of the assessment. The changes are intended to provide a more precise assessment of market value.

Duty, quantity, timing, and basis and location specifications

Under the proposal, the assessment will be refined to be duty-unpaid dutiable Phosphoric Acid incurring the standard rate of duty, currently 5%.

Price information related to duty-unpaid dutiable Phosphoric Acid that incurs a different duty percentage and duty-free Phosphoric Acid will be normalized to this basis, where applicable and possible.

Platts also proposes changing the quantity specification to a basis of 10,000 mt to 35,000 mt Phosphoric Acid solution (52%-54% P2O5) to better reflect typical transaction sizes. Platts would normalize information to this point where necessary. At present, the weekly assessment reflects a minimum 6,000 mt P2O5 Phosphoric Acid clip size.

Phosphoric acid is typically priced and assessed per mt of 100% P2O5 but is transported in dilute form, so that the price per mt of (52-54%) cargo received differs from the assessed price per mt of (100%) P2O5.

The location specification of the assessment will also be narrowed, with Kakinada on the East Coast of India as a basis, and price information relating to other relevant Indian ports will be normalized to this point where applicable and possible.

In line with the current regular weekly cadence of this assessment, the assessment name would be changed from " Phosphoric Acid (100% P2O5) CFR India $/mt Qtly " to " Phosphoric Acid (100% P2O5) CFR India ".

The revised specifications for the assessment would read as follows:

FPAIA04 – Phosphoric Acid (100% P2O5) CFR India
· Quality: Phosphoric Acid defined by a P205 content of 100%
· Quantity: Basis 10,000 mt to 35,000 mt Phosphoric Acid solution (52-54%)
· Basis and location: Duty unpaid spot product that incurs the standard rate of Indian import duty, CFR Kakinada
· Timing: Loading 5-30 days forward
· Frequency: Weekly, every Thursday
· Unit of assessment: $/mt
· Timestamp: 16:30 London close, published according to the London publishing calendar

The assessment appears in Platts Connect, the Phosphate Market Report, the World Fertilizer Review, and the Platts price database under the symbol FPAIA04.
