Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch four new weekly sulphuric acid freight assessments, effective May 22, 2024.
Freight rates can make up a significant portion of CFR sulphuric acid prices. These assessments cover four common trade routes and will provide greater transparency to market freight rates.
The assessments will cover the following routes:
- Northeast Asia-Southeast Asia
- Northeast Asia-Chile
- West Europe-Brazil
- West Europe-North Africa
Platts initially proposed the launch of these assessments on April 11, 2024, in a subscriber note available here.
Details of the Northeast Asia-Southeast Asia sulphuric acid freight assessment are as follows:
- Sulphuric Acid Northeast Asia-Southeast Asia 10,000 mt $/mt
- Cargo Size: 10,000-20,000 mt; basis 10,000 mt
- Loadport: Basis Zhangjiagang port. Cargoes loading at other Northeast Asia ports, including Fangcheng, Qinzhou, Putian, Longkou, Lanshan, Laizhou, Nantong, Sagonoseki, Niihama, Hibi, Onahama, Ulsan and Onsan, will also be considered and normalized to Zhangjiagang port basis for assessment purposes.
- Disport: Basis Bahodopi port. Cargo arriving at other Southeast Asian ports, including Obi Island, Weda Bay, Haiphong, Phumy, Kuantan, Kemaman, Map Ta Phut, Rio Tuba and Surigao, will also be considered and normalized to Bahodopi port for assessment purposes.

Cargoes loading at other Northeast Asia ports, including Fangcheng, Qinzhou, Putian, Longkou, Lanshan, Laizhou, Nantong, Sagonoseki, Niihama, Hibi, Onahama, Ulsan and Onsan, will also be considered and normalised to Zhangjiagang port basis for assessment purposes.
- Disport: Basis Mejillones port
- Timing: Product to be loaded between two to four weeks forward

- Loadport: Basis Antwerp port. Cargoes loading at other West Europe ports, including Pori, Hamburg, Nordenham, Szczecin, Huelva, Aviles and Skelleftea, will also be considered and normalized to Antwerp port basis for assessment purposes.
- Disport: Basis Aratu port. Cargoes arriving at other Brazilian ports including Rio Grande will also be considered and normalized to Aratu port basis for assessment purposes.

- Loadport: Basis Antwerp port. Cargoes loading at other West Europe ports, including Pori, Hamburg, Nordenham, Szczecin, Huelva, Aviles and Skelleftea, will also be considered and normalized to Antwerp port basis for assessment purposes.
- Disport: Basis Jorf Lasfar port. Cargoes arriving at other North African ports, including Safi will also be considered and normalized to Jorf Lasfar port basis for assessment purposes.
