Platts to launch new weekly Karachi ethanol assessments, May 1, 2025

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch three new weekly Platts FOLicht Ethanol FOB Karachi price assessments, effective May 1, 2025.

Platts will begin publishing the ethanol assessments as part of the migration of these prices from Commodity Insights' biofuel research and analytics coverage.

Platts will launch three ethanol assessments:

  • Platts FOLicht Ethanol, FOB Karachi Extra Neutral Alcohol
  • Platts FOLicht Ethanol, FOB Karachi Industrial grade
  • Platts FOLicht Ethanol, FOB Karachi Anhydrous grade

Commodity Insights currently publishes weekly FOB Karachi Anhydrous, ENA, and industrial-grade ethanol prices in the World Ethanol Price report. Platts will adopt the current price specifications and will update the coverage to reflect Platts methodology.

The three cargo assessments reflect cargo loading 30-45 days forward from the week of publication, basis FOB Karachi port. Pricing information for other Pakistan ports may be considered but would be normalized back to the basis location. Cargo size of 2,000-3,000 mt, other volumes may be taken into consideration but would be normalized back to 2,000-3,000 mt.

The FOB Karachi assessments reflect a Letter of Credit at sight up to 30 days from the date of the transaction. For deals with usance of greater than 30 days, the value of the extra credit allowance will be normalized.

The ethanol quality and purity reflected in the assessments will be:

  • ENA: undenatured extra neutral alcohol with 96% alcohol by volume
  • Industrial grade: undenatured industrial grade ethanol with 95% alcohol by volume
  • Anhydrous grade: anhydrous grade ethanol with99.7%-99.9% alcohol by volume

These assessments will be published in the Platts weekly Fuel ethanol report, Platts Biofuels Alert and will continue to be published in the World Ethanol Price report.

Platts spot price assessments consider market information reported to Platts and published throughout the week, including firm bids and offers, transactions, and indications of value. This information will be published as price heards.

In the absence of observable spot market activity, Platts may consider other verifiable data reported.

The assessments will be time-stamped to 4:30 pm Singapore time on Mondays and will follow the Platts India publishing schedule.
