Platts opens consultation on Med 0.1% gasoil cargo specification

S&P Global Platts is opening a consultation on the specification reflected in its Platts Gasoil 0.1% Cargoes CIF Med assessment (code AAVJJ00).

This also applies to the related netback assessment Platts Gasoil 0.1% Cargoes FOB Med (code AAVJI00).

Platts Mediterranean high sulfur gasoil assessments currently reflect Spanish (B&C) quality gasoil for heating oil use, with a maximum sulfur concentration of 0.1%.

The specification reflects a density range of 0.820-0.880 kg/l, with the Platts assessments normalized to a reference density of 0.845 kg/l.

Platts is seeking feedback on the prevailing high sulfur gasoil specifications in the Mediterranean as the demand share between heating and automotive consumption shifts.

Europe has been a traditional demand center for 0.1% gasoil for use in heating, but demand has lessened over the years as lower sulfur regulations have come into force and the use of alternative sources of energy for heating have risen.

At the same time, North African countries have become increasingly important demand centers for 0.1% gasoil for use as a road fuel.

Platts is seeking feedback on the fungibility of Spanish B&C and other 0.1% gasoil specifications in the Mediterranean region, including information on prevailing trade flows and the typical density of 0.1% gasoil traded.
