Platts proposes to discontinue US MEG contract price

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to discontinue its US monoethylene glycol contract price assessment (PHAXG04) due to its decreasing relevance, effective May 16, 2025.

Platts currently publishes a monthly fiber-grade contract price for MEG, which reflects product with a minimum purity of 99.8%. This contract price is calculated based on an average of three Asia Contract Price nominations, minus the US-Far East Asia liquid chemicals freight for 5,000 mt parcels.

The proposal follows a decision to stop publishing Shell's monthly MEG Asia contract price from January 2025, which can be seen in a subscriber note here(opens in a new tab).

Platts will continue to publish weekly monoethylene glycol spot price assessments on an FOB US Gulf Coast basis under the symbol PHAXF04.

The affected assessment is published on Platts Connect and in the Olefinscan.
